Our Inspiration is Our Mother Land

If there is any land on this earth that can lay claim to be blessed Punya Bhumi.. The land where humanity has attained its highest towards gentleness, towards generosity, towards purity, towards calmness, above all the land of introspection and of spirituality, it is India.

India has several places as per their importance, in of them is Varanasi, also known as Banaras.

Varanasi is a magnificent city, rising from the western bank of the River Ganges, where the river takes a broad crescent sweep toward the north. There is little in the world to compare with the splendor of Varanasi, seen from the river at dawn. The rays of early-morning sun spread across the river and strike the high-banked face of this city, which Hindus call Kashi-the Luminous, the City of Light.

Varanasi is one of the oldest living cities in the world, as old as Jerusalem, Athens, and Peking. It occupied its high bank overlooking the Ganges in the cradle days of Western civilization. Its antiquity has caught the imagination of many, such as Mark Twain. He quipped, “Banaras is older than History, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together!”.

For over 2,500 years this city has attracted
pilgrims and seekers from all over India.

Sages such as the Buddha, Mahavira, and Shankara, have come here to teach. Bathing in Ganges, a river said to have fallen from heaven to earth, is the first act of Varanasi pilgrims and a daily rite for Varanasi residents. Also along the river are dozens of temples with high spires, most of them dedicated to Lord Shiva, who according to tradition makes this city a permanent earthly home.

The India we see here reflects the elaborate and ancient ritual tradition of Hinduism. It is a tradition of pilgrimage to sacred places, bathing in sacred waters, and honouring divine images. It is a tradition in which all of the senses are employed in the apprehension of the divine. Its shrines are heaped with fresh flowers and filled with smell of incense, the chanting of prayers, and the ringing of bells. It is a tradition that has imagines and imaged God in a thousand ways, that has been adept in discovering the presence of the divine everywhere and in bringing every aspect of human life into religious arena. It is religious tradition that understands life and death as in integrated whole. Here the smoke of cremation pyres rises heavenward with the spires of a hundreds temples and the ashes of the dead swirl through the waters of the Ganges, the river of life.
