Filming Indo – Production Fixer Company based in Delhi bullish on Business after new Indian Filming Incentives

New Delhi & Varanasi- based production service company FILMING INDO is looking forward to a further surge in business in the wake of new Indian filming incentives that were announced in Cannes.

International productions filming in India can be reimbursed up to 35% of qualifying production spend in the country.

FILMING INDO, which specializes in Overseas films shooting in India, has been operational since 2018 and films they have provided production services for include “The Liberation,” “IND on the RUN” and “TWO WORDS AS THE KEY.”

The initial reimbursement for international shoots in India is 30%, which can go up by an additional 5% for productions employing 15% or more manpower in India.

“The incentives will be a great advantage for foreign producers who decide to come and shoot in India also, because there is this bonus of 5%, they may want to employ more Indian technicians, because, from our experience, we have amazing technicians in India. It will be an additional incentive to probably replace a couple of foreigners by Indians,” the Director, Journalist and Fixer Mr R Singh says.

Mr Singh says that productions may decide to advance their shooting schedules in India because of the incentive. “If they know that they will get a refund of 30% they may decide to shoot and not wait for the final funding. So, definitely it will bring more projects to us for sure,” Mr Singh says.

India-bound projects that are stuck because of gap funding up to 30% will also be accelerated, says Mr Singh. “We get a lot of inquiries about gap funding and those projects are going to come alive now,” Mr Singh says. We are going to go back to them, talk to them, and tell them about the incentives.”

FILMING INDO has few more projects from US, UK and Europe lined up to shoot in India on which details are under wraps at the moment and discussions are also on with films from other parts of the world.

Dandami Maria or Bison-horn Maria the oldest tribes of Central India

Dandami Maria or Bison-horn Maria as they are popularly known as, are among the oldest tribes of Central India. Their distinctive headgear is one of the most charming cultural attributes.

dandami Maria tribe indiaOver centuries the Dandami Maria tribals have led a secluded and isolated life in Orchha, a tiny, sleepy village in Bastar district of Madhya Pradesh. The Dandami Maria tribe considers the market-day as an opportunity for socializing, and hence the entire family is walks on their toes. In a competition held at market they would win awards for long-distance speed walking: a family may cover forty to fifty kilometers a day, with a load on each member’s head, through difficult forests and mountain terrain, and yet go without eating food for a whole day! The tribals have a unique way of carrying their belongings: they carry their bow on the shoulders, and from either end hangs a bamboo basket in which is stored cookware and the produce to be sold.

To entertain themselves, young boys and girls chat and sing, reminding one of a flock of screeching parrots. Dandami Marias are starved of hard cash, and therefore have to go for barter for goods. They exchange produce such as honey, liquor, and mustard-seeds for oil, salt, chilies, and jaggery.

Dandami Maria or Bison-horn Maria tribe India 2

For Dandami Marias their life partner is a gift of God. There is nothing the female partner will not or cannot do. The wife fondles the husband like a child, loves him like a lover, keeps him company like a true companion, respects him like  a partner, and works with him as an equal.

Dandami Marias wear headgear made of a pair of buffalo horns, wrapped with yellow and red ribbons and a bunch of rare plumes tucked in the center. (This sort of headgear has led to the tribe’s popular name `Buffalo-Horn Maria` even though they prefer to be called ‘Dandami Maria’). Numerous cowrie strands dangled from this headgear hiding the dancer’s faces from onlookers. An elongated drum was tied to their waist.

Dandami Maria or Bison-horn Maria tribe India 1The girls’ hair-buns were decorated with red, blue and white ribbons, wooden combs, and hairpins. They wear numerous, colorful strands of beads around their foreheads. They also decorate their necks with necklaces made of coins, and also wore glass bangles. Each dancer carried a baton that had tiny bells attached. Though they do not use any color for their make-up, their costumes themselves gave them a very majestic look.

The boys move forward and backward in a semi-circle and the girls follow their steps. When the drums and bells synchronized to produce rhythmic music, the girls commence singing in very low voice.

Why still India has no heritage city?

At present, about 287 cities around the world are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage City list, but there is not a single city from India. Only Bhaktapur in Nepal and Galle in Sri Lanka have been declared as World Heritage Cities from the Indian subcontinent. After initial clashes between Ahmedabad, Delhi and Mumbai in India, the government has decided that it will stake claim to register Ahmedabad as a heritage city. But it will be known only in June 2017 whether any city from India can become the first heritage city or not. At present, the truth is that no city from India is in the World Heritage City list.

What are the benefits of being a heritage city?

If UNESCO declares a city as a World Heritage City, then its name immediately shines in the world and the number of tourists there also increases very fast. Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat, is a city settled in the 11th century and there are about 36 such places which are in the list of Archaeological Survey of India. It is said that the proposal to declare Delhi and Mumbai as a World Heritage City was not sent because the proposal of Delhi is stuck with the Ministry of Urban Development while the proposal of Mumbai was not very good.

Before this, many efforts were made to make Banaras a World Heritage City but things did not work out. In the year 1992, the merits of the city of Banaras were first mentioned in front of UNESCO but it did not manage to attract attention. A similar attempt was made in 2002 but that too was unsuccessful. After this, Varanasi Development Authority and Municipal Corporation made many efforts but things did not work out. In 2012, the World Bank and the central government’s Ministry of Urban Development made plans with Ajmer-Pushkar, Varanasi and Hyderabad in mind. Similar efforts were made regarding Delhi, but the truth is that no city from India could make it to the list of World Heritage City. So the government is still trying for it.

Two places selected in ten years

UNESCO selects a city as a heritage city on the basis of how important heritage sites are treated there and the seriousness shown in their conservation. Along with this, it is also seen how this city has saved its heritage while being modern. Evidence of the heritage being ancient is important, but the attachment to the heritage of the institutions of that city matters more. It is certainly a matter of relief that the number of sites included in the World Heritage List from India is good. In 2014, Rani Ki Vav in Patan, Gujarat and the Great Himalayan National Park of Kullu were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

After a gap of about 10 years, two sites from India were selected together in the World Heritage List. A cultural heritage and a natural heritage. Very few places from India have been included in the list of natural heritage. The government is also trying to include the Rann of Kutch and the Kangchenjunga National Park in Sikkim in this list. 44 years after the World Heritage Convention held in the year 1972, 161 countries are now standing together to save the heritage of themselves and other countries.

Heritage is the mirror of civilization

The importance of ancient heritage is not only from the point of view that the sources of an important event in history are hidden in them, but they are also important in the sense that the new generation can learn a lot from them. Does the town plan of Mohenjodaro not provide essential lessons for modern city planning? Doesn’t the Taj Mahal of Agra still compel the onlookers to think how this beautiful building must have been realized? Looking at them, we come to know that how man has traveled step by step.

Looking at these heritage, the eye falls on all the steps through which the world has reached till today. Before today’s generation can boast of its progress, it has to remember what kind of things have been created in the past and there is a lot to learn by seeing their beauty. These heritages show that the world was not created suddenly, but it has traveled hundreds of years till this era.

These monuments also include places that remind man that everything is not necessarily on his own. There are also many natural surroundings that remind man of his limitations. Tells him what to save.

Mandu and Sarnath in probable list

Many places of historical and cultural importance from India are included in the potential heritage list. Among these, Mandu is located in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and Harmandir Sahib is also located in Amritsar, Punjab. The remains of Nalanda found in the excavation are also in this list. Places like Silk Route, Shantiniketan, Mughal Garden of Kashmir, Cellular Jail of Andaman are also in the race to be World Heritage. Only once it is included in the Prospective List does a heritage qualify for a place in the Main List.

The Last Breath | Documentary on Death Hotel of Varanasi India

The Last Breath

It is an immense pleasure to share with you all our last work of 2020 pre pandemic. The documentary titled “The Last Breath” filmed in the spiritual city of Varanasi, India by the acclaimed British Director Celia.

The film follows the story of Kashi Labh Mukti Bhawan which is a charity-run a place that offers lodging to those who wish to give up their last breath in the holy city of Varanasi (also known as Banaras or Kashi) to achieve Moksha, a Hindu term for enlightenment or release.

To attain this salvation, thousands of people travel to Varanasi to die. The so-called ‘death hotel’ has 10 rooms for guests, a temple where they have special prayers three times a day, an office room and small quarters for its priests. Guests who are not medically fit and within days of dying are allowed to take shelter in the house for two weeks with minimal charges. There is a condition to die within two weeks; if the health of the guest improves they are asked to move on. The house offers the service for free to those who cannot afford it.

Underwater filming and photography services for TV and Film in India

Underwater filming and photography services for TV and Film in IndiaUnderwater filming in India is very rare to find India but there are still some scenic locations where you can get great shots at underwater filming and photography. In recent years, there has been a huge increase in this field. Not only the underwater cinema but also, launches, weddings, conferences and a lot more has been added to the list. As technology is getting more advanced, high-quality equipment and cameras are being used for underwater activities.

As we are discussing underwater filming, let’s first discuss what is underwater photography. In simple terms, it is taking photographs while being underwater. It can be done while diving on the surface, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, or from a submissive or remotely operated underwater vehicle.

Best natural locations for Underwater Filming in India

Some of the best locations for Underwater filming and Videography are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Goa and Puducherry. These are the most famous places for scuba diving and other water activities in the country. For Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep, there are many islands with the heavenly aqua beauty like Havelock Islands or Kadmat Islands. In India, there are studios are also specially built for underwater photography and film shooting.

Equipment for Underwater Photography and Filming

Underwater filming and photography services for TV and Film in India (5)

There are various equipment which you require for the underwater filming which are very adverse to the ones which we use in the normal conditions. There are many cameras which are waterproof and can be used underwater. The first of these cameras was Calypso, which was reintroduced in 1963 by Nikon. Otherwise, there are also cameras used for dry work which can be taken underwater, by protecting them with add on housings. Action cameras, DSLRs and bridge cameras are mostly used below the water.

In general, macro or wide-angled lenses are used for this purposes that we can get clear view at short distances itself. Many a times a flash or video lights are used to fill light at the dark spots underway. In addition to these there are many more equipments which are used by the technicians and photographers  as they work in the water.
